Staci fell in love with American mah jongg after discovering a game that brought generations of her family together around the table—laughing, connecting, and spending meaningful time together without the distractions of technology. What began as a way to unwind at the end of the day soon became a cherished ritual, reconnecting her with family and her own inner joy of play.

What started as a personal passion quickly grew into a calling. Staci discovered that teaching the game—especially watching someone’s face light up when they call their first mah jongg—brought her just as much joy as playing. As a trained trauma therapist, she also recognizes the deeper benefits of the game, including fostering social connection, strengthening communication skills, supporting nervous system regulation, and stimulating cognitive functions such as memory, pattern recognition, and decision-making.

Staci founded Buttercup Mahj to create a welcoming space where community and connection can flourish through the shared joy of mah jongg. Whether you are a complete beginner, a parent hoping to share the game with your children, or an experienced player looking for your people, there is a seat at her table for you.
