Biography
Michele M. Roman
Mah Jongg Instructor • Retired Educator & Coach • Community Builder
“Creating a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone can learn, laugh, and fall in love with mah jongg.”
Michele M. Roman is a lifelong educator, coach, and community builder whose passion for teaching shines through in every mah jongg lesson she leads. A proud Philadelphia suburbs native, Michele spent her professional career as a respected high school teacher and coach, developing a reputation for making learning approachable, engaging, and enjoyable for students of all backgrounds and skill levels. After retiring from education, Michele brought her love of teaching, strategy, and connection to the mah jongg table.
An avid pickleball player and dedicated mah jongg enthusiast, she quickly immersed herself in the game, playing and teaching multiple times each week. Her strong understanding of mah jongg fundamentals, combined with decades of instructional experience, has made her a confident and effective instructor. What sets Michele apart is her ability to guide beginners beyond memorizing rules and into understanding how the game truly works. Her guided-play approach helps players build confidence through hands-on experience while developing strategic thinking and decision-making skills. Students appreciate her patience, organization, and ability to simplify concepts without losing the excitement and depth that make mah jongg so rewarding.
Michele’s instruction covers every stage of the game, from setup and Charleston strategy to hand development, defensive play, and end-game awareness. Committed to lifelong learning, she continually expands her own knowledge of advanced strategies and gameplay techniques, bringing fresh insights and enthusiasm to every class.
Michele hosts lessons and games from her four-table home studio and teaches throughout the Northeast Philadelphia suburbs and the Pottsville/Hamburg region of Pennsylvania. Whether introducing brand-new players to the game or helping experienced players strengthen their confidence and strategy, her mission remains the same: to create a welcoming space where people can learn, connect, and develop a lifelong love of mah jongg.
