DuGue Zion
Biography
DuGué (pronounced Du-Gay) fell in love with American mah jongg the moment she learned to play. The game’s strategy and problem-solving appealed to her analytical mind, while the friendships, laughter, and sense of community captured her heart. Today, she is passionate about helping others discover both the game and the joy it brings.
Drawing on years of experience leading teams, developing people, and designing corporate training programs, DuGué believes American mah jongg can be learned by anyone when it’s taught in a clear, logical way. Rather than overwhelming students with information, she focuses on helping them understand the “why” behind the game so they can develop confidence, think strategically, and continue to grow as players.
Known for her patient, organized, and encouraging teaching style, DuGué creates a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning through experience. She especially enjoys introducing beginners to the game and loves witnessing the moment when strategy begins to click and confidence takes over.
As a lifelong learner, DuGué continually studies National Mah Jongg League strategy and enjoys developing visual learning tools that make complex concepts easier to understand. She believes learning should be practical, engaging, and enjoyable while remaining grounded in a strong understanding of the official rules.
For DuGué, teaching mah jongg is about far more than matching tiles. It’s about building confidence, creating meaningful connections, and helping every student develop a lifelong appreciation for the game.
