Cindy’s connection to American mah jongg began long before she ever picked up a tile. Growing up, she fondly remembers the familiar sound of tiles shuffling during her mother’s weekly mah jongg games around the kitchen table. Learning to play nearly 25 years ago felt like a natural rite of passage, and she has been enjoying the game’s unique blend of strategy, tradition, and social connection ever since.

Over the years, Cindy has taught family and friends, including her own children, so they could share the game with their grandmothers. She believes one of mah jongg’s greatest gifts is its ability to bring generations together around the same table. Her teaching experience also includes classes at her synagogue and local libraries, where she enjoys introducing new players to the game.

Cindy draws on a diverse teaching background that includes leading professional seminars as a senior manager with a Big Four accounting firm, teaching children in religious education programs, and completing a 95-hour Yoga Alliance-accredited children’s yoga and mindfulness teacher training. These experiences have shaped her thoughtful, patient, and engaging teaching style. She encourages questions, emphasizes understanding over memorization, and believes the most important part of mah jongg is having fun while building confidence.

Cindy is the owner and lead educator at Pung Intended, an American mahjong studio in Livingston, New Jersey. She offers classes at her studio, private lessons in homes, and instruction for community organizations and special events.
