Cheryl Poore is a mah jongg instructor and founder of the Kentucky Mahjong Society. Passionate about bringing people together through the game, Cheryl believes mah jongg offers benefits far beyond entertainment. She sees it as a powerful way to keep the mind active, strengthen cognitive skills, build confidence, and create meaningful friendships and connections.

Known for her welcoming, patient, and supportive teaching style, Cheryl is dedicated to making learning both enjoyable and effective. She combines visual aids, hands-on instruction, guided practice, and real-world play opportunities to help students develop a strong foundation while learning at their own pace. Her ability to connect with players of varying experience levels creates an encouraging environment where everyone feels comfortable and supported.

Cheryl’s commitment to her students extends beyond the classroom. She remains a trusted resource for questions, guidance, and encouragement as players continue their mah jongg journey. Her goal is not only to teach the rules of the game, but also to help students gain confidence and become active members of a thriving mah jongg community.

Through the Kentucky Mahjong Society, Cheryl has built a vibrant organization offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced instruction, along with open play, leagues, tournaments, special events, and private gatherings. She is passionate about creating opportunities for players of all skill levels to learn, connect, and enjoy the camaraderie that makes mah jongg so rewarding.
