Mary Ellen is a passionate American mah jongg instructor who teaches using National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules, with a focus on strategy, etiquette, and the joy of the game. Drawing on a professional background in licensure, development, and adult education, she brings both expertise and a welcoming approach to every lesson. Her commitment to lifelong learning and community engagement is at the heart of her teaching philosophy.

Whether working with beginners or experienced players, Mary Ellen believes every mah jongg tile presents an opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate the rich cultural legacy of a game that has flourished in the United States for over a century. Through her instruction, she creates inclusive spaces where confidence grows, friendships develop, and community thrives—one mahj at a time.

Mary Ellen offers in-person lessons, workshops, and customized group programs designed to bring people together through the shared enjoyment of mah jongg. Through her business, MahjCommunity, and its social media presence, @mahjcommunity, she shares strategy tips, inspiration, and beautifully curated tablescapes that celebrate the art and community of the game.
