Biography

Lorraine Graybill has been an enthusiastic American mah jongg player since 2016, combining her passion for the game with a genuine love of teaching others. She first learned to play Mah Jongg while living in Singapore, where she discovered not only the enjoyment of the game itself, but also the friendships, strategy, and lifelong learning it inspires.

Since 2021, Lorraine has been sharing her knowledge by providing informal mah jongg lessons to new players, helping them build a strong foundation in a welcoming and encouraging environment. Her patient teaching style and ability to explain the game’s concepts clearly have helped many beginners gain confidence at the table.

After relocating to Tokyo in 2022, Lorraine helped establish an American Mah Jongg group at the Tokyo American Club. There, she introduced numerous members to the game, teaching the rules, strategies, and etiquette of American mah jongg while fostering a fun and supportive community of players.

After returning to the United States in the summer of 2025, Lorraine continued teaching small groups and expanding her instruction. While she began by focusing on beginner lessons, she now also offers intermediate instruction for players seeking more in-depth training. These sessions are designed to strengthen strategic thinking, improve decision-making, and build greater confidence at the table.

Whether teaching someone their very first game or helping an experienced player refine advanced strategies, Lorraine is committed to creating a supportive and engaging learning experience. She believes mah jongg is a game of lifelong learning and takes great pride in helping every student grow, improve, and enjoy the friendships and sense of community the game brings.
