Biography

Joan is a retired public school educator with a lifelong love of games. She was instantly hooked on mah jongg in fall 2024 after attending a lesson with Mahjong Melanie. Now, Joan shares her passion by teaching beginner American mah jongg (using NMJL rules and the current card) and Mini Mahjer to students as young as six, to gradually prepare them for full NMJL play. Her mission is to make mah jongg fun, approachable, and rewarding for kids and adults alike.

Student Skill Level: Beginner

In-Person Group Size: Up to 8 (possibly more with assistants)

Online Group Size: Up to 4
