Biography

Jennifer brings a love of mah jongg, a deep knowledge of the rules, creativity, and Southern hospitality to every table. With a quick wit and a natural ability to connect with people, she enjoys helping beginners build confidence, celebrate their first wins, and discover the lasting joy of the game.

Known for making even the most complex concepts easy to understand, Jennifer has a gift for breaking down strategy, patterns, and rules into clear, approachable lessons. Her encouraging teaching style meets players where they are, making the game accessible and enjoyable for everyone—from first-time learners to experienced players looking to strengthen their strategy and sharpen their decision-making.

While she embraces friendly competition, Jennifer believes kindness and connection are what make mah jongg truly special. One of her favorite playing memories is completing the Big Hand on the 2026 National Mah Jongg League card after boldly discarding four jokers along the way—a reminder that trusting your instincts can lead to remarkable results.

Jennifer is a proud member of the leadership team at Heron House Mahjong, where she helps cultivate a vibrant mah jongg community in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her involvement came full circle after asking her own instructor—immediately after learning to play in 2022—whether she had ever considered opening a mah jongg studio. Today, she is grateful to help grow that vision while supporting both players and fellow instructors. She believes that while competition has its place at the table, collaboration strengthens the entire mah jongg community.

Outside the classroom, Jennifer is an enthusiastic collector of mah jongg tile sets and is currently learning Hong Kong-style mah jongg to deepen her appreciation of the game’s cultural heritage.

For Jennifer, the only sound better than the familiar clack of mah jongg tiles is hearing the excitement in a student’s voice when everything finally clicks.
