Biography

After more than 30 years in the classroom, Alissa has traded lesson plans and gradebooks for tiles and table chatter—bringing her teaching expertise into a whole new world of learning. She now shares her love of mah jongg with students of all ages, guiding them through NMJL rules, etiquette, and the essential skills that help new players feel confident and capable at the table.

A natural educator, Alissa breaks down the game in ways that feel friendly, intuitive, and empowering. She hosts open-play events, themed guided-play nights, and ongoing beginner classes at her local library, ensuring new players have a welcoming place to practice and grow. Her mission is simple: to help every student feel at home with the tiles and ready to take on any East Coast table with confidence and joy.
