SIMULTANEOUS CALL FOR MAH JONGG WITH A MISNAMED DISCARD (Article 94)
Commentary: Sometimes, a player will misname a discard, resulting in two players who declare mah jongg—one who heard the misnamed tile and one who saw the actual tile. The player who saw the actual tile wins and everyone pays as normal.
Question from a player: A tile was thrown and misnamed. Two players call for mah jongg. One player calls for the misnamed tile. The other player notices that the actual tile was thrown is their mah jongg tile and they call that tile. They do not call the misnamed tile. Who gets the mah jongg?
Answer from the NMJL: “The player who wants the actual tile that was thrown gets mah jongg, not the player who needed the incorrectly named tile. Players need to look and listen when tiles are discarded.”
