Commentary: A popular variation supported by the league is playing with a bettor. If a bettor interferes with the game in any way, their bet is canceled.

Question from a player:  What is the penalty to the bettor if they interfere with the game?

Answer from the NMJL:  A Bettor may not speak even though it is realized that an error has been made. The Bettor remains silent and either pays or receives an appropriate amount. No discussion by the Bettor may occur until after the declarer has been paid by all players. If the Bettor in any way interferes with the play of the game, their bet is cancelled.
