Sheila has been playing American mah jongg using National Mah Jongg League rules since 2012 and teaching since 2020. Her passion for the game shines through in every lesson, and she deeply values the sense of community mah jongg creates.

Student Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

In-Person Lesson Size: Any size with assistants; usually 12 or less.

In-Person Guided Play Size: One instructor for four players with up to 12 players.

Online Lesson Size: Up to 8

We play and teach American mah jongg in the greater New Orleans area. Our physical location is in the Taylor Education Center near the World War II Museum and we also travel to nearby cities. We love the rich history of the game and are steeped in knowledge about vintage sets. Sheila collects and is fascinated by old NMJL cards and rulebooks, using them to track changes in the rules through the decades. This helps her impart a deeper understanding of why certain rules are in place to new players, rather than just relying on rote memorization. The Fleur de Mahj group brings their love of the game to new players and finds they learn new things too, along the way!
