Candi Amos
Biography
Candi Amos discovered American Mahjong the way many players do—around a table with friends, lots of questions, and plenty of practice. She quickly realized that learning the rules, NMJL card, Charleston, and strategy all at once could feel overwhelming. That experience sparked a passion not only for mastering the game, but for finding better, more approachable ways to teach it to others.
What began as helping friends soon grew into organized classes, private lessons, open-play events, and instructional resources designed to make Mahjong easier to understand—and more enjoyable to play. Candi also helped launch a local Mahjong studio, an experience that strengthened her belief that new players need more than a quick introduction to the rules. They need patient instruction, practical strategies, opportunities to practice, and a welcoming environment where questions are always encouraged.
Today, Candi is the founder of Red River Mahj, serving players throughout North Texas, Southern Oklahoma, and beyond. She teaches both in person and virtually, working with brand-new players as well as experienced players looking to sharpen their strategy. Her classes include Mahj Made Simple, Beyond the Basics, Charleston Strategies, and Tournament Prep.
Candi’s teaching style is warm, patient, practical, and always a little fun. Her goal goes beyond teaching players how to play Mahjong. She wants them to understand why they are making their moves, build confidence around the table, and develop strategies they can carry into every game.
Most of all, Candi believes Mahjong is about connection. Through Red River Mahj, she hopes to help more people learn more, play more, and discover the friendships, laughter, and community that make Mahjong so special.
