Kim is the founder of Lake Tillery Mahjong Loft, a cozy garage-loft studio in Norwood, North Carolina, where beginners learn American mah jongg in a welcoming, hands-on environment. Her goal is to help students understand more than the rules—she wants them to develop the skills and confidence to comfortably join a game on their own.

A pharmacist by profession, Kim brings a thoughtful, structured approach to teaching while creating an atmosphere that feels relaxed and personal. Alongside fellow instructor Beth Hinson, she offers beginner classes and guided play sessions designed to help students progress from learning the fundamentals to making decisions and playing more independently.

Kim believes mah jongg is best learned through experience: handling the tiles, playing real hands, asking questions, and learning alongside others. That philosophy is at the heart of the Loft, where small groups and guided practice give students the time and support they need to truly understand the game.

For Kim, the experience extends beyond learning mah jongg. It’s about creating a place where people can gather, connect, and become part of a community built around the tiles.
