Katheryn Davis
Biography
Katheryn is a mah jongg instructor who brings warmth, hospitality, and enthusiasm to every table she leads. She loves not only the game itself, but also the multigenerational community that makes mah jongg so special. Through her innovative, hands-on teaching style, Katheryn’s goal is simple: to share her genuine love of the game and create welcoming spaces where students feel confident, capable, and connected.
After taking her first class, Katheryn immediately immersed herself in learning everything she could about mah jongg. What began as curiosity quickly became a calling to teach. She follows the rules of the National Mah Jongg League and thoughtfully distinguishes any house rules groups may adopt, helping players build clarity and confidence wherever they play. A lifelong learner at heart, she continually seeks opportunities to deepen her knowledge and enrich her students’ experiences.
Katheryn holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and spent 25 years as a Registered Nurse specializing in women’s and children’s care, including Labor & Delivery and Newborn Nursery. Today, she helps run her family’s catering and event design business, a 40+ year enterprise rooted in hospitality and celebration. At home, she enjoys designing beautiful tablescapes — both dining and mah jongg — spending time with her two Weimaraners and German Shorthaired Pointer, and embracing her most treasured title: Grammy to her grandchildren.
For Katheryn, mah jongg beautifully blends tradition, hospitality, social connection, and laughter. She looks forward to sharing the joy of the game with families and friends for years to come.
