Emily is the owner and founder of The Lucky Sparrow, an organization dedicated to spreading the joy and mastery of American mah jongg.

Her journey began as a passionate deep dive into the game’s rules and strategy, transforming a casual curiosity into an expert teaching practice. Emily is committed to teaching exclusively by National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules, ensuring that every student builds a strong foundation of accuracy, confidence, and understanding.

Based in Glen Allen, Virginia, Emily is deeply involved in her community as an active member of the Junior League and a former board member of the Children’s Museum of Richmond Associate Board. A successful management consultant, wife, and mother of two young children, she brings clarity, organization, and patience to her instruction—qualities that make her lessons approachable and effective for learners of all levels.

Emily believes mah jongg is more than a game—it’s a bridge between people. Whether connecting friends, neighbors, or families, she strives to make every lesson an experience of discovery, laughter, and lasting connection.
