Educational Capability & Habits Observation (ECHO)

Understand how you teach. Strengthen how your students learn.

Teaching is more than knowing the rules—it’s about creating learning experiences that inspire confidence, curiosity, and growth. The Educational Capability & Habits Observation (ECHO) assessment helps you better understand the instructional capabilities you bring to every lesson and identifies opportunities to become an even more effective educator.

Rather than measuring what you know, ECHO explores how you teach. Through guided self-reflection across eight core instructional capabilities, you’ll gain valuable insight into the habits that shape your students’ learning experience.

Whether you’re a new instructor developing your teaching style or an experienced educator refining your craft, ECHO provides a meaningful starting point for intentional professional growth.

How It Works

ECHO evaluates eight essential instructional capabilities that influence learner engagement, confidence, and long-term success. You complete a short self-assessment by rating yourself from 1 to 10 in each of the eight teaching capabilities.

For every rating, you’ll also explain why you selected that score. Your reflections provide valuable context that goes beyond the numbers and help identify patterns, strengths, and opportunities for growth.

Rather than assigning a pass or fail, ECHO provides a snapshot of where you are today—creating a foundation for intentional growth over time.

Combined with the ELE Dimensions and Teaching Ecosystem Sustainability & Stability Assessment (TESSA), ECHO provides a comprehensive view of you and your teaching practice, creating a powerful foundation for personalized coaching and long-term professional development.

The Result

ECHO helps you understand not only what you teach, but how you teach—providing the insight, reflection, and coaching needed to grow into an even more effective instructor.

Teach with greater awareness. Coach with greater intention. Grow with greater confidence.

Your ability to recognize and respond to the emotional experience, confidence level, and learning needs of your students while creating an environment where they feel seen, supported, and capable.

Your ability to objectively observe learner behaviors, decision-making patterns, and context to understand what is happening beneath the surface.
Your ability to translate complex concepts into clear, meaningful learning experiences that meet students where they are and support understanding.
Your ability to adjust your teaching approach, pace, and strategies based on learner needs, group dynamics, and changing circumstances.
Your ability to create engaging learning experiences where students actively participate, practice skills, reflect, and develop confidence through discovery.
Your ability to evaluate your teaching experiences, learn from feedback, identify opportunities for improvement, and intentionally grow as an instructor.
Your sense of alignment between your teaching practice, your goals, your lifestyle, and your current season of life.
