Learning Lab Associate Agreement

Thank you for choosing to serve as an Associate Instructor in the Mahj Life Learning Lab. Associates are instructors in the early stages of their teaching journey who contribute to our private Facebook group and benefit from mentorship, shared knowledge, and real-time engagement with players.

This role is designed to help you grow your confidence and competence as a teacher while making a meaningful contribution to the wider Mahj Life community.

Program Overview

The Mahj Life Learning Lab is a private Facebook group dedicated to supporting new players and emerging instructors. As an Associate Instructor, you will participate in the group by answering questions, sharing insights, and helping foster a positive, encouraging learning environment.

This is a collaborative space where we elevate the craft of teaching, empower emerging voices, and strengthen the community one player at a time.

Responsibilities of an Associate Instructor

As a Mahj Life Associate, you agree to:

  1. Engage with Players
    • Respond to rules questions and gameplay concerns using the Mahj Life standards and the official Mah Jongg rules as your foundation.
    • Participate actively by offering support, clarity, and kindness in all responses.
  2. Contribute to a Positive Learning Culture
    • Maintain a professional tone in all discussions.
    • Model inclusivity, sportsmanship, and encouragement in your interactions.
    • Avoid debating others; instead, use the Mahj Life Wiki to provide a common standard.
  3. Share Knowledge and Resources
    • Offer helpful tips, strategies, and lessons learned to support both new players and fellow instructors.
    • Post relevant insights that contribute to the group’s educational mission.
  4. Participate Regularly
    • Check in with the group frequently and respond to questions as often as possible.
    • There is no minimum time requirement, but consistency is encouraged.
  5. Support the Mission of Mahj Life
    • Uphold the core values of Mahj Life: accurate instruction, welcoming spaces, and professional growth.

As an Associate Instructor in the Mahj Life Learning Lab, you will receive:

  1. Directory Recognition
    • Your name and credentials will be listed in the Mahj Life Instructor Directory, helping you build visibility as a teacher.
  2. Mentorship and Peer Learning
    • Learn directly from experienced mentors who are available to answer your questions and offer feedback.
  3. Instructor Resources
    • Access digital tools, guides, and teaching strategies that support your growth and instructional effectiveness.
  4. Professional Development
    • Gain experience responding to real player questions and refining your communication in a supportive environment.
  5. Promote Your Lessons
    • You are welcome to promote your Mah Jongg teaching services within the group—this is a great way to connect with new students and grow your practice.
    • To help members find the right fit, include a clear header or hashtag with your posts:

      • Use VIRTUAL or #Virtual for online offerings. Be sure to include City, ST for clarity.

Code of Conduct & Confidentiality

As a member of the Mahj Life Learning Lab, you agree to the following conduct guidelines:

  1. Professionalism
    • Maintain a respectful and positive tone in all communication.
  2. Promote Your Lessons
    • You are welcome to promote your mah jongg teaching services within the group—this is a great way to connect with new students and grow your practice.
    • To help members find the right fit, include a clear header or hashtag with your posts:
      • Use IN-PERSON or #InPerson for local lessons.
      • Use VIRTUAL or #Virtual for online offerings. Be sure to include City, ST for clarity.
  3. No Product Sales
    • Social selling of mah jongg sets, accessories, or related products is not permitted. The group is for education and player development, not merchandising.
  4. Confidentiality
    • Respect the privacy of group members. Do not share screenshots, comments, or personal information outside of the Learning Lab without permission.
  5. Community Care
    • Foster a sense of belonging for all players and Associates. Be a consistent, encouraging presence.

Terms of Participation

This agreement remains in effect as long as you are actively contributing to the Mahj Life Learning Lab as an Associate Instructor.

You or the Guild Leader may withdraw participation at any time with written notice. In the event of termination, your name will be removed from the Mahj Life Instructor Directory.

Agreement Acknowledgment

By continuing in your role as an Associate Instructor, you acknowledge that you understand the responsibilities, benefits, and expectations outlined above. You agree to uphold the integrity of the Mahj Life brand and to participate in good faith as a community contributor.
