How Can We Help?
WESTERN MAHJONG (ARTICLE 219)
Western Mahjong is based on the original Chinese game but has many Wright-Patterson Mah Jongg influences. Here is a really good source for this version: https://www.smoothguide-mahjong.com/
I believe that sometime in the early 1960s, an American Air Force dependent taught UK nationals how to play Wright-Patterson Mah Jongg (WPMJ) when stationed in the UK. When the American was transferred to a new post, they wrote the hands on paper so the UK nationals could keep playing. Over the years, the UK nationals created their own hands and they modified the Charleston and called it the “Goulash”. Western Mahjong is popular in the UK, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
