There is a popular house rule called “Wall Game Kitty” (i.e., pot). Here’s how it works:

Each player contributes a quarter to a dish when a game ends in a draw. If any player loses their pie, their payment to the winner comes from the kitty. If money remains in the kitty after the last hand, it is held for the next game or divided equally and given back to the players.

Here are some variations:

  • Each player puts a quarter into the kitty at the end of each wall game. Should a player go PIE during the game or cannot complete their payout, the money or shortage is taken from the kitty.
  • Each player puts a quarter into the kitty at the end of each wall game. The winner is paid his regular winnings and the value from one wall game. This continues until the wall money is used up.
  • Each player puts a quarter into the kitty at the end of each wall game. The wall game money is divided up between all players.

Some groups forgo the pie but still use a wall kitty to award a bonus to the next winner.

NOTICE:
When a group chooses to play with house rules, its members are responsible for establishing the specific logistics, rules, and penalties that apply. Because these can vary widely from one group to another, players should always ask about the group culture before joining a game for the first time.
