How Can We Help?
FRISH IF UNHAPPY WITH CHARLESTON RESULTS (Article 175)
Commentary: The word, “frish” is a new one and the league found it “exceptionally amusing” – Me: LOL. In poker, this is called a “muck” whereby a folds their hand.
The purpose of the Charleston is to improve your starting position. Whatever the results, players can continue to develop the hand as they pick and discard one tile at a time.
Question from a Player: I remember using the word “frish” after the Charleston to ask if everyone agreed that they were unhappy with their hand and wanted to throw in their hands and start over. Do you remember this? If so, what years did we use “frish”?
Answer from the NMJL: We found your letter exceptionally amusing, but really cannot be very helpful about the term, FRISH. We believe that it was incorporated as part of the “table rules” of a particular game and picked up by other players.
