How Can We Help?
DISQUALIFIED PLAYER MUST PAY THE WINNER (Article 33)
Commentary: When a player’s hand is declared dead, the player stops playing. Even though they are disqualified, they are still responsible for paying like everyone else if someone wins.
Question from a player: Does a player whose hand is declared dead have to pay the winner?
Answer from the NMJL: [A] disqualified player discontinues picking and discarding. The other players continue play. When Mah Jongg is declared by any of the remaining players, the disqualified player pays the winner full value of hand.

Other answers from the league:
“The player who has been declared dead cannot, later in the game declare another player dead. Technically she is no longer part of that game and must remain silent. It is really not to her advantage to so , as it would increase the changes for another player to make mah jongg. The player with the dead hand sits quietly and prays for a wall game.”
