How Can We Help?
5-STAR MAH JONGG (ARTICLE 244)
Mah Jongg is a four-player game, but playing with five or six options exists. To learn how the league recommends playing this way, read 5TH PLAYER BETTING RULES AND PAYMENTS (Article 150).
One group created a way for the fifth person to be an active player. Here’s how it works:
Setup
The game has 8 extra flowers and 6 extra jokers (166 tiles total).
East has a 2-tier wall 17 tiles wide (34 tiles), and the other four players each have a 2-tier wall 16 wide plus one tile (33 tiles each).
The Charleston
The right passes (Fig 1) and left passes (Fig 3) are done as usual.
The cross pass is done in a 5-point star formation (Fig 2).
The optional across is omitted.
The pick and discard phase of the game is played as usual.

SPECIAL THANKS to Judy Smith for sharing about this variation. In another variation, players mush the cross pass.
SHOUT-OUT to Wes Stone, an active member of the Mahj Life Instructor Guild, for the diagrams!
