Sydney Tucker
Biography
Sydney is the co-founder of Mockingbird & Magnolia Mahjong, a Northwest Arkansas–based company dedicated to teaching, celebrating, and elevating American mah jongg through classes, events, and community experiences. With a passion for Southern hospitality and a flair for creating memorable gatherings, Sydney has introduced countless new players to the game, blending tradition with modern accessibility.
Her teaching style is approachable and encouraging, designed to make mah jongg less intimidating for beginners while inspiring confidence as players grow. Sydney specializes in Mahjong 101 and 102 courses, private group instruction, and guided play sessions that combine strategy, social connection, and fun. She believes mah jongg is more than a game—it’s a way to bring people together, spark friendships, and strengthen community.
Known for her attention to detail and ability to break down complex rules into clear, easy-to-follow steps, Sydney creates inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome. Whether hosting a boujee “girls’ night” mah jongg party, guiding a small group through their first Charleston, or curating stylish teaching tools, she brings energy, warmth, and a touch of Southern glam to everything she does.
As part of Mockingbird & Magnolia Mahjong, Sydney invests in growing the mah jongg community beyond the table by collaborating with local businesses, partnering with fellow instructors, and freely sharing resources. Her efforts have already expanded mah jongg’s presence in Northwest Arkansas, and she is committed to continuing that growth through teaching, events, and mentorship.
Sydney’s goal is to empower more players—especially women—to embrace mah jongg as both a skill and a joy. By combining instruction with creativity, hospitality, and community spirit, she helps bring mah jongg into the mainstream while honoring its rich history and tradition.
