Penny is the owner of Mahj Garage in Bentonville, Arkansas. Mahj Garage is a welcoming space where people of all ages can learn, play, and enjoy mahjong together. Penny is a former English teacher who brings her love of language, learning, and connection to the world of American mah jongg. Drawing on years of experience making complex ideas clear, approachable, and fun, she creates a welcoming, encouraging environment where players of all levels can grow in skill and confidence.
Penny was drawn to American mah jongg for its rich blend of strategy, creativity, and connection—and especially for the way it fosters community across generations. As an instructor, her goal is to share the joy of the game, spark curiosity, nurture friendships, and inspire lifelong learning.
When she’s not at the mah jongg table, Penelope teaches aerial and mat yoga, travels the country with her husband in search of scenic hikes, and enjoys immersing herself in a good book.
