Melanie Charest
Biography
Melanie is an American mah jongg instructor based in southern Maine who is passionate about introducing new players to the game in a way that feels both approachable and engaging. She first learned mah jongg five years ago through the Chinese version when a friend returned from living abroad and shared the game with her. She later transitioned to American mah jongg and quickly developed a deep appreciation for its structure, strategy, and traditions.
Over the past year and a half, Melanie has introduced more than 150 people to mah jongg, guiding them through the rules and rhythm of the game using the National Mah Jongg League framework. She focuses on creating a fun, supportive learning environment where players can build confidence and feel comfortable sitting at any table. Melanie is dedicated to growing a strong and connected mah jongg community throughout Maine.
