Martine Kline
Biography
Martine Kline is a mahjong instructor and co-founder of Ménage à Mahj in 2023, where she and her business partner, Megan, teach American mahjong focusing on strategy, depth, and mastery. They maintain small class sizes (never more than eight students) and have developed their own interactive, hands-on curriculum designed to help players learn efficiently while enjoying the game’s rich complexity.
Ménage à Mahj has been a cornerstone of the Mississippi mahjong community for years, even earning a feature in Mississippi Magazine in 2024. In addition to teaching, Martine and Megan are the driving forces behind the Mississippi Mahj Club, through which they host not-for-profit opportunities for all locals to play more mahj.
Martine believes teaching standardized rules is key to maintaining mahjong’s ability to unite people. By providing a shared structure, these rules allow players to find common ground that transcends differences in gender, age, class, religion, and race, fostering an environment where the game’s inclusive nature can thrive.
