Biography
Laura is an American mah jongg instructor who teaches using National Mah Jongg League rules, known for her patient, encouraging approach. Her love for the game began during a spring trip to Charleston, where she learned from her childhood best friend. Inspired, Laura dove headfirst into mastering Mah Jongg and quickly discovered a passion for teaching others.
She has developed creative, supportive methods for players who struggle with the game’s complexities and continues to grow her own skills as both a teacher and player. Laura sees Mah Jongg as a joyful, unifying game that brings together friends, families, and even strangers through fun and friendly competition.
When she’s not teaching or playing Mah Jongg, Laura is training and competing with her dogs—Peaches, Artemis, and Noodle—in agility sports or enjoying peaceful days on her farm in Chapel Hill with her husband, Randall. She also works full-time as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, helping patients stay safe during surgeries and procedures.
