Biography
Laura Johnson is a passionate mah jongg instructor dedicated to bringing people together through the joy of the game. With a background as a first-grade teacher and corporate trainer, she understands how to tailor her teaching to fit different learning styles, ensuring that everyone—beginner or experienced—feels confident at the table. As the founder of Music City Mahjong Collab (coming spring 2025), Laura has created numerous private mah jongg groups across Nashville, introducing adults and kids (ages 10 and up) to the game. She believes mah jongg is more than just a pastime—it’s a way to build community, have fun, and support brain health. Laura’s unique teaching approach breaks the game down from start to finish, making it accessible to all. Beyond instruction, she uses mah jongg to give back and raise funds for local philanthropic organizations. Whether teaching or hosting events, Laura’s mission is to connect, educate, and inspire through mah jongg.
When not playing mah jongg, Laura enjoys being with her three young daughters, husband Neil and dog Dolly. She loves antiquing, traveling, and house projects. She plays mah jongg 2-3 times weekly with her 10-year-old twins!
