Heather is a mah jongg instructor who specializes in helping beginners feel comfortable, confident, and excited to play. She creates welcoming spaces where students build skills and form connections, believing mah jongg should be as natural to reach for as classics like dominoes or Uno—a timeless, screen-free way to bring people together.

With about a year of experience in mah jongg, Heather combines her fresh passion for the game with a long history of teaching others. Through her board game café, The Portal Downtown in Panama City, FL, she regularly introduces people of all ages to new games. She has also completed multiple online mah jongg training sessions and continues to deepen her knowledge of game strategy to grow both her play and teaching.

Heather brings added expertise from her background as a Certified Worksite Wellness Coach and NDPP coach, where she guided people in learning and sustaining new skills. A graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Communications, she now works full-time in public relations and public affairs for a health system.

When she isn’t teaching or playing mahjong, Heather enjoys spending time with her family and exploring new games at her café. Her mission is to help more people discover mah jongg as both a joyful pastime and a meaningful way to connect with others.
