Tina Cheatham
Biography
Tina is a mah jongg instructor who helps students feel confident, curious, and connected by blending decades of executive leadership experience with a warm, laughter-filled teaching style. She believes learning American mah jongg should feel like joining a welcoming circle—where encouragement is constant, support is genuine, and everyone is invited to play boldly.
After years spent coaching, mentoring, and training professionals at every level of an organization, Tina now brings that same clarity, energy, and empowerment to LoCo Mah Jongg. She designs engaging learning materials and creates thoughtfully curated class environments that help students relax, focus, and enjoy the rhythm of the game. Her approach balances structure with joy, ensuring players build a strong foundation while having fun along the way.
Tina also brings creativity to the table. She produces original mah jongg–inspired music, including her album Tiles Across This Land, celebrating the game’s cultural resurgence through roots-infused songs. A lover of mah jongg history, she often shares 1920s newspaper clippings that connect modern players with the women who helped shape the game in the United States a century ago.
With a degree in Speech Communication from Texas State University, Tina believes in the power of clear instruction, shared stories, and meaningful connection. When she’s not teaching or creating for LoCo Mah Jongg, she can be found tending her farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, playing with her dogs, or writing music that celebrates friendship, tradition, and gathering around the table.
