Emilie is an American mah jongg instructor and community builder with nearly 30 years of experience playing the game. She has been teaching for over a year and is the founder of Let’s Mahj RVA, a vibrant mah jongg community based in Richmond, Virginia.

Emilie’s teaching style is grounded in patience, empathy, and accessibility. As a caregiver to a child with a disability, she brings a deep understanding of how important it is to meet people exactly where they are. She teaches intentionally and without rush, walking students through each aspect of the game until the concepts truly click. By incorporating multiple learning styles and hands-on instruction, Emilie ensures every student feels supported, capable, and confident at the table.

Community has always been at the heart of Let’s Mahj RVA. What began as small lessons in homes has grown into a dedicated studio space where players gather to learn, practice, and form meaningful connections. For Emilie, mah jongg began as a personal outlet during her caregiving journey—a way to create joy, laughter, and connection. Today, it has become a welcoming, inclusive community she is proud to share with others, one tile at a time.
