How Can We Help?
MAH JONGG FOR THE BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED (Article 190)
If you have family or friends who love playing card games and are blind or vision impaired, here are a couple of ideas that could improve their experience:
For the color blind, consider buying a card with different colors. Use a fine-tip sharpie to denote change in suit like in this Infographic: https://tinyurl.com/mryu4mzx
For the Blind, create a deck of mah jongg cards:
- Braille Slate and Stylus: https://www.amazon.com/Lines-Cells-Braille-Writing-Stylus/dp/B06XNS5D1T
- Mah Jongg Cards #10: https://www.nationalmahjonggleague.org/store.aspx#; To date, there are no American mah jongg sets for sale with braille.
- Card Holders (2 sets; one for concealed, one for exposures): https://www.amazon.com/YH-Poker-Hands-Playing-Holders/dp/B078DQ7CPR
- Standard Deck Example: https://www.amazon.com/Braille-Playing-Cards-Brailled-Corner/dp/B003IE6PP4
I would think the braille could follow this convention: 1D for 1 Dot, 2C for 2 Crack, 3B for 3 Bam, GD for Green Dragon, N for North, J for Joker, F for Flower.
The only challenge would be how the blind person can track discards.
